Ward 2 Councilmember and current Metro Chair Jack Evans paid a visit to DCAR and its members to discuss the latest happenings in DC. We covered a range of topics from the Democratic Primary to DC’s stadiums and plans for Metro. There was so much to talk about and we can’t wait to share what we learned.

Councilmember Jack Evans has spent a long career taking care of the neighborhoods in Ward 2. Notably, Councilmember Evans celebrated 25 years on the DC Council in 2016. His illustrious career saw a revitalization of a city in large part to his role in bringing notable sports stadiums the Verizon Center and Nationals Park. “If you build it, they will come.” We’re not sure if Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans publicly or privately uttered the famous line from Field of Dreams, but it turns out he made a pretty solid bet. A recent editorial from Thom Loverro at The Washington Times crunches the stats in great detail. In short, Nationals Park rakes in so much revenue, DC could pay off the debt in 20 years instead of the projected 30.

The big topic was the current financial and operational health of DC’s Metro system. Councilmember Evans also spends his time serving as the current chairman of the Metro Board of Directors. The tri-state transportation system has served residents in the area for over 40 years. The system has struggled as of late due to its age and limited time and resources for upkeep. Jack gave us a great breakdown of current events and gave us plenty of historical context to back it all up. You can learn more about his involvement by watching our Speaker Series video. Be sure to also check out and share our Speaker Series photo album on Facebook.

We would like to thank Councilmember Evans for taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak to our members. With so many changes taking place in DC, it’s reassuring to know he’s got a handle on it all.
