Effective July 3, 2015, landlords in the District of Columbia are required to provide ALL RENTAL APPLICANTS (or visit http://ota.dc.gov and look under Featured News>>Press Releases for the “D.C. Tenant Bill of Rights” article) with a copy of the Tenant Bill of Rights, along with the other respective disclosure documents that are required under DC’s Rental Housing Act.

The Office of Tenant Advocate has stated all “prospective tenants” in the District of Columbia must be provided a copy of the Tenant Bill of Rights upon “filing an application to lease any rental unit.” In discussions with the Office of Tenant Advocate, they have stated it would be prudent for REALTORS® to attach a copy of the Tenant Bill of Rights to all rental applications. The Tenant Bill of Rights will be available on GCAAR’s website and ZipForms.

If you have any questions or concerns, such as when exactly you must provide a copy of the Tenant Bill of Rights, we highly encourage you to contact DC’s Office of the Tenant Advocate at (202) 719-6560.
