The DCAR Public Policy returned to the Wilson Building for its Annual Advocacy Day at the John A. Wilson Building. While the Mayor’s proposed budget has not yet reached the Council, Public Policy Committee members and DCAR leadership took this opportunity to build on their relationships with Councilmembers and staff and to highlight their budget and legislative priorities for the remainder of the year. The Council was excited to participate and engage with DCAR, as demonstrated by the participation of a supermajority of Councilmembers and representatives of every Council office.

DCAR’s advocacy focused on the impact of the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act on small landlords, the need for comprehensive eviction reform to ensure housing providers can collect rent, the value of continued investments in homeownership, and the importance of maintaining competitive property taxes. Councilmembers walked away with a better understanding of DCAR’s priorities and ready to partner with us on shared goals.
