Affordable Housing:
DCAR supports initiatives that integrate affordable housing throughout DC. More Information
Recordation and Transfer Taxes:
The District’s recordation and transfer tax rates are among the highest in the nation, while its homeownership rate is among the lowest in the nation. DCAR is working hard to bring the cost of owning a home to a more reasonable rate in order to help more people own homes. More Information
TOPA:
The Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, or TOPA, was once one of the biggest concerns for District homeowners looking to rent out their property. DCAR fought for years to fix some of the many problems with the law, and in the summer of 2018, the DC Council passed a full single-family exemption to TOPA. More Information
