Economic Development:
Homeownership directly impacts every aspect of a community, and it’s one of the biggest drivers of an economy, not just in DC but everywhere. Homeowners invest more passionately in their neighborhoods, and they are the ones who will utilize the city’s resources — the grocery stores, the restaurants, the Metro, the parks, etc. — over the coming years and decades. Recordation and Transfer Taxes:
The District’s recordation and transfer tax rates are among the highest in the nation, while its homeownership rate is among the lowest in the nation. DCAR is working hard to bring the cost of owning a home to a more reasonable rate in order to help more people own homes. More Information

The Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, or TOPA, is one of the biggest concerns for District homeowners looking to rent out their property.
